Summer 2008 Movies

in

So it’s that time of year again - The Summer movie season when Hollywood brings out the “Blockbusters.” This year there are once again many superhero movies to choose from -Iron Man, The Dark Knight, The Hulk redo - and we get a new Indiana Jones movie, Speed Racer, Sex and the City, a new M. Night film (am I really the only one out there who liked Lady in the Water?), Get Smart, Wall E, Hellboy 2, X Files 2, Pineapple Express and dozens more. Here’s a great link with a bunch of these and their trailers,

Stop Uwe Boll!

in

For those of you that have seen any of the movies directed by Uwe Boll - you know he needs to be stopped. If you have not seen any of his movies, consider yourself lucky. Mr. Boll even challenged film critics to a boxing match because he was so fed up with the negative reviews that his films received. Unfortunately for us, Mr. Boll won the boxing match and continues to make movies. Now, he has challenged us to a petition. If we can get 1 million signatures on the petition, he’ll quit the movie business forever.

check out his filmography - an average rating of 2 out of 10!

21

The movie 21 didn’t really depict the book, Bringing Down the House. I guess it was based on actual events, not on the true story. I was disappointed in that regard.

The Dryden and The Little

in

I love all types of movies and Rochester is a great city for movie “geeks” like myself. If you have never been to either The Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman House or The Little on East Ave, you are missing out. Just this month, the Dryden screened Richard Kelly’s (the director of “Donnie Darko”) “Southland Tales”. It may not have been the best movie, but the two showings at the Dryden were the only ones in Rochester. April is David Lynch month at the Dryden and if you are a fan of his films, you can check them out on the big screen.

Horton Hears a Who!

in

Horton Hears a Who was such a great movie. It really calls to all ages, not just little kids. Steve Carell and Jim Carey were awesome in it. Dr. Seuss always has tried to relay some sort of underlying message in his books and his movies. Try to figure out the message in Horton Hears a Who!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

in

I absolutely loved Sweeney Todd. I’m not a musical kind of girl, but I thought that Johnny Depp’s acting in this movie was top-notch. Although there was a lot of blood, it had an interesting plot and an even better climax. I normally do not see movies more than one time, but for this one I would make an exception.
