"parking stalkers"

alright so i’m wondering if this happens to anyone else on their campus as its been a more and more frequent phenomenon at RIT these days.  has anyone ever been stalked for their parking spot?

almost everytime i make my out to the parking lot (i usually park in U lot at rit) in the past month i have totally been stalked for my parking spot.  as soon as im sighted headed away from campus so car slowly creeps behind me all the way to my car (usually at the back of the lot)  i really wouldn’t be so annoyed having it happen every now and then (since we’ve probably all done this before)  but seriously almost every time? to make the situation slightly funnier though there are often times i just go out to my car to get things i may left and let the car follow me all the way before allowing them to discover i was just going to pick up a hard drive or a camera.

does this happen to anyone else or am i totally crazy?

It happens to me more often

It happens to me more often at Wegmans than on campus. One time in the Wegmans lot I saw a car hovering near a guy who was loading groceries into the car and talking to the person next to him, and the person waiting actually leaned out his window to ask if either of those cars was going to leave anytime soon. And they basically said “no, go find another spot, loser.” And he did. Sometimes you just need to suck it up and walk an extra 30 seconds, people…

Eh.. it happens I guess

I feel that everyone has looked for a person that was potentially leaving a parking spot so that they could snatch it. I’m not one of those people that hovers around a parking spot because it would would probably be in my best interest (physically) to just walk the extra distance instead of parking really close. It does get rather annoying when there are no parking spots whatsoever and you are late for class as it is. Also, when it is freezing cold and you have to walk about a mile to get into the academic buildings at school.

Vulture for a spot

I will often circle a few times to secure a better spot but I won’t follow a person back to their car just to get their spot. I don’t like being followed so I won’t put anyone else through that. I also have no issue with making myself a few minutes late if it means I don’t have to walk as far. Sure, I could use the exercise as much as the next guy but it isn’t about a few extra steps or burning a few extra calories it is about getting the heck out of there and heading home. I don’t mind walking extra to class in the morning but when the day is done; the day is done and I want out!

The Mall

I work at the mall and during the holidays, I used to follow people to their cars. It was only because the parking lot was literally full. I would have had to park at Target which is outside of the mall and on the opposite side of the store I work at. I feel so weird doing it, but it’s the only was to find a spot. But now that it’s not so busy, I just park a little farther and walk.

Parking issues

This used to happen to me all the time at MCC. However, I have always been one that thinks driving around the parking lot looking for a prime location takes up more time than it’s worth. I tend to just pull in and park. So, those people following me in the parking lot usually gave up when they found out my car was out in the farthest lot.

Yes, it is nice to just “get out” as one put it, but the time wasted searching for a spot adds up, and there are so many more important things.

Happened All The Time

When I was at RIT over the past couple of years, this would happen almost everyday (especially in U Lot). I normally didn’t mind it - I was an 8am class student, but when I did have a day that started later, I knew how hard it was to find a parking space. I found it easier to just look at them (the “stalker”) and point to where your car is… at least this way they’re not “following” you - now they’re just waiting by your car.
