Brockport Ladies squeak by Cortland

posted by Peter Bartell on 02.06.08

SUNY Brockport senior Courtney Hines led the Golden Eagles with 26 points including six three-pointers earlier this week at Tuttle North Gymnasium on the campus of SUNY Brockport. One of these three-pointers put the Golden Eagles into the lead with 1:42 left in the second half. This was Brockport’s first lead of the game.

Hines scored 20 of 24 points in a span of nearly 10 minutes in the second half. Senior point guard and All-American Ashley Broadhurst also had a phenomenal game for the Golden Eagles chipping in with 21 points and nine assists.

“The leadership from Hines and Broadhurst was there all night long, and that helped a ton,” SUNY Brockport Head Coach Michele Caron said.

At one point in the first half, Cortland had compiled a 13 point lead when they were up 25-13. However Brockport’s resilience kept the second half close the whole way, and the fans erupted when they finally took the lead.

“It was an amazing way to come back,” Brockport resident Joseph Green said. “It was such a great game, and I’m glad that Brockport came out on top.”

With the big SUNYAC conference win over SUNY Cortland, the Golden Eagles have now won their last five games, and 10 of their last 11.

The Eagles improve to 10-1 in SUNYAC play (17-3 overall) in the west division, while the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland fall to 9-2 in SUNYAC play (15-3 overall), but remain in first in the east division.
