A great way to spend the summer
“Are you guys ready? Let’s go to the lake!” yells Grahm Gardner, sail instructor at the Rochester Yacht Club.
As he rides in a motorboat alongside a group of young sailors, his voice echoes against the light breeze on Lake Ontario. Each summer, the small sailboats create excitement as well as a new challenge, for those ages 6 and up.
Connor Shumway, a 10-year-old boy and one of the students on the sailboat, hears this statement and seems to be a bit tangled in the equipment. He looks up and sarcastically says, “It’s tough being a sailor.”

Students brought together by Connection Program
Among the variety of different colored t-shirts and the fun, energetic games, were the smiles hiding the nerves of the incoming freshman and transfer students at Roberts Wesleyan’s annual Connection Program. On Monday and Tuesday, June 30 and July 1, recently graduated high school students and those who are transferring, crowded the athletic fields, gymnasium, dining hall and dorms of the quiet campus.

For the love of the game
As a petite, attractive girl with short brown hair wearing a white, collared, button-down shirt, Liz Buckner, at least appearance-wise, seems far from a sports enthusiast. But if you were to classify her just by her sophisticated style, then you would be very wrong.
A student at the University of Rochester, Buckner first thought she wanted to go into medicine. But soon she realized that her career would take her in a very different direction.

A taste of Poland
When debating food choices, it seems to be the same old pattern; fried food, pizza, sandwiches, Chinese, maybe a little sushi and after that the ideas may not reach much further. What about Polish food? Although it may not be the norm for many to have a Polish meal, Polska Chata, a restaurant in Irondequoit, offers a variety of Polish dishes and zupy (soup).

Leave the driving to RTS
As gas prices continue to climb, area residents are increasingly turning to alternate methods of transportation. Earlier this week, Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA), announced that ridership has grown so-much-so that the agency can afford to roll the fare back to $1. With more than 50,000 Rochesterians taking advantage of RGRTA’s services every day, this RocLoop staffer decided to spend a day on the bus.
