Review: Charlie's Frog Pond
Next to Jines and across the street from the new bar Magpie is a small diner-like delight on Park Avenue, called Charlie’s Frog Pond. The name is unique but the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. When walking through the door the bright yellow booths and bright yellow wallpaper with black and white polka dot frogs, creates a welcoming glow. The numerous frogs placed around the restaurant makes the décor representative of its name.
What’s on the menu: Eggs and omelettes, breakfast and bread, both cold and hot sandwiches, burgers, dinner plates including meat loaf, salads, homemade soup and the horny toad meal.
What’s to drink: A variety of juices, coffee, soda, herb tea and chocolate milk. Wine is sold by the glass and the bottle, and there is beer on draft.
Most popular meal: No. 17 on the menu. The frog’s famous frittata with Italian sausage, onions, peppers and potatoes.
Most popular beverage: The caffeine-charged coffee.
Fun Fact: Charlie’s Frog Pond opened in 1975. And they have customers that have stayed faithful since!
Why you should go there for a meal: “Because the food is fresh, breakfast is served all day and all night,” said Betsy Wilson, the owner. “It’s a fun place, there are crazy people that work here. We have a huge clientele. The omelettes are huge, and everybody always comes back.”
