More than 50 St. John Fisher College students gathered at The Cardinal Café Monday night for Fisher’s Open Mic Night, which showcased some of the many talents here on campus.

Those lucky enough to arrive early were able to snag seats on the leather sofas and tables off to the side. Students who arrived a few minutes after 9:30 p.m., found themselves standing off to the side or by the door.

Among the busy crowd were the performers. Students brought their own guitars and practiced outside of The Cardinal Café before their set. Business management major, Mike Wolfe, 18, and Communications major, Mike Nordquist, 18, were a couple of those students.

“[I’m] a little nervous,” Nordquist said as more students gathered at the door. “[I’ve done this] about once.”

Wolfe, on the other hand, is not as nervous. “I’ve done this two or three times,” Wolfe said. “If I do good, good.”

Nordquist and Wolfe practiced various songs, one of them being a Goo Goo Dolls hit from 1998, Iris. Joining their friends on stage, they got the crowd to sing along with them as they belted out the lyrics.

What really got the crowd singing along was the rock version of Britney Spear’s first hit, Baby, One More Time.

The event, held by the Student Activities Board, ended with a raffle drawing.
